2005 Pairings

First Pairing

03/07/05

This is my first pairing of 2005. This pairing was started quite late as I wanted to wait for the female to settle in for as long as possible before I started breeding her. Sapphire and Crumb were paired for Crumb's next attempt at a successful clutch.

These snakes were together for a several months before I saw a confirmed copulation. Based on the timeframe of when I saw ovulation, I am quite sure there were others that I just was not awake to see.

05/06/05

The female refused food for the first time, and I am hoping for good things to come.

06/02/05

This was the confirmed ovulation. As you can see from the picture, its a very good text book ovulation. I am hoping from the size of this female, and being her first breeding attempt, that I will get a huge clutch from her. I am also hoping to produce some nice blue snakes from this pairing. All of the babies should be red as both adults were red babies.

Sapphire was taken to the vet on several occasions due to problems of not being able to lay her eggs. She had a blockage of calcified fecal matter that kept the snake from properly laying her eggs. The xray pictures to the left show the blockage and the eggs. None of the eggs were viable after the surgery. Sapphire needed her left ovary and uterus removed. In the picture to the left, you can see the stitches from the procedure. She will most likely never be able to breed again.

Second Pairing

08/12/05

This pairing is one that I am quite excited for. The dam is a Jade line from Rob Worrell and the sire is a spectacular high white blotched male. This pairing could produce some amazing babies.

10/21/05

My Jade line female refused food for the first time. She has fattened up some, which I believe to be follicle development.

11/16/05

The Jade line female has started her ovulation and is on her way to laying her eggs very near Christmas day. I had babies hatch last Christmas day, and this year I should get a female laying eggs. Another great Christmas present again this year.

12/24/05

The Jade line female laid 12 eggs and 4 slugs on Christmas Eve. Now comes the fun part of waiting for them to hatch. I am really excited about this pairing and I can't wait to see what the babies turn out like.
